Mega corruption scandal rocks Sindh education system

KARACHI: A major corruption scandal has emerged in Sindh’s education sector, with authorities uncovering widespread financial irregularities and alleged manipulation of examination results across multiple boards.

The Anti-Corruption Department launched a probe following the arrest of a senior official from the Mirpurkhas Board. The investigation has since widened, placing several education boards and key officials under scrutiny.

Officials say nearly Rs200 million was allegedly collected through illegal means, involving tampering with exam results, altering official records, and influencing transfers and postings within the education system.

The inquiry has implicated boards in Karachi, Sukkur, Hyderabad, and Nawabshah. Several current and former chairmen, controllers of examinations, and senior officials have been summoned for questioning as part of the investigation.

Authorities also reported cases of result manipulation, including an instance where a student was issued two different mark sheets showing significantly different scores, raising serious concerns about the credibility of the examination process.

The scandal has once again highlighted longstanding issues of corruption and mismanagement within Sindh’s education sector. Experts warn that without strict accountability, public confidence in the system could be further undermined.

Investigations are ongoing, and officials indicate that more arrests and disciplinary actions are likely as efforts continue to uncover the full extent of the corruption network.
