Shehbaz Sharif Proposes Islamic Task Force to Counter Israeli Aggression
Doha, September 15, 2025 — Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif has called for the formation of an Arab-Islamic task force to respond to what he termed as Israel’s “expansionist policies” and recent violations of international law. His remarks came during the Emergency Arab-Islamic Summit held in Doha, where leaders gathered to address the ongoing crisis in Gaza and broader regional tensions.
Sharif strongly condemned the September 9 airstrike on Doha, labeling it a “reckless and provocative act” that undermines Qatari sovereignty and breaches international norms. He urged the international community to take urgent and concrete action to hold Israel accountable.
Calling for an immediate and permanent ceasefire in Gaza, the prime minister highlighted the immense humanitarian crisis unfolding in the region. He described the situation as a “war on the Palestinian people” and demanded uninterrupted humanitarian access to those affected.
Among the key proposals in his speech was the suspension of Israel’s membership in the United Nations, the use of Chapter VII of the UN Charter to enforce a ceasefire, and the delivery of humanitarian aid. He emphasized that such measures are essential to restoring peace and upholding international law.
Sharif reiterated Pakistan’s longstanding position that lasting peace in the Middle East can only be achieved through the establishment of an independent and sovereign State of Palestine, based on the pre-1967 borders, with Al-Quds Al-Sharif (Jerusalem) as its capital.
On the sidelines of the summit, Shehbaz Sharif held discussions with leaders from Saudi Arabia, Egypt, and Jordan, focusing on coordinated diplomatic action to pressure Israel and support the Palestinian cause.
The proposal for a unified Islamic task force underscores Pakistan’s push for stronger and more coordinated responses from Muslim-majority countries amid increasing regional instability and continued Israeli military operations.
